Home is a Great Training Ground for Heroes!

Heroes have a way of capturing our imagination. We look up to heroes and aspire to be one too, but intimidation often has a way of getting us to surrender our heroic ambitions.

Take Moses, for example.

I grew up on this classic!

Moses witnessed God engrave the Ten Commandments and also managed to engrave himself into history by delivering the Hebrews from Egyptian slavery. He’s an epic Biblical personality, historical figure, and even a blockbuster character personified forever in our minds by Charleston Heston. Moses is a timeless heroic heavy weight, yet even he battled insecurity.

When offered the task that would one day define him and etch him into history books, Moses exhausted an array of excuses and finally exclaimed, “God, please just send someone else!” (Exodus 4:13)

Living a life of faith and instilling faith in our kids will require us at one point or another to stand up and stand out as we live by our convictions. I explained to the kids last Sunday, if you find yourself afraid, don’t worry. Most every hero was afraid too, before mustering up the courage to do what was needed. You also don’t have to neglect the small things to be a hero. Treating others with love and kindness can be exactly what needs to be done to be a hero for someone.

I shared the following video with your kids on Sunday to encourage them in being an everyday hero. As you’ll see in the clip, a young boy proves to be a young man of character by simply caring for his disabled sister. Starting at home is the best training ground for heroes! Spark the hero within your kids and reward them with acknowledgement, words of affirmation and encouragement.

This blog for parents of Highpoint Kids is a refelction on last week's lesson:

Unit 4, Session 1: God the Redeemer

Moses Was Born and Called

BIBLE PASSAGE: Exodus 1:8–2:10, 23-25; 3:1–4:20

BIBLE TIMELINE: God rescued Moses to deliver His people from captivity.

BIG PICTURE QUESTION: What is God’s plan? God’s plan is to rescue His

people from captivity.

THEME VERSE: Hebrews 3:5-6 (ESV)

Now Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, but Christ is faithful over God's house as a son. And we are his house if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.
